Shopping at Kroger soon? Don’t miss out on these popular items! Here are 7 Kroger brand products you absolutely need to be buying.
Kroger isn’t only a supermarket, but it’s a supermarket with a purpose. It aims to deliver fresh and quality products at a low cost. It promotes affordable healthy eating, zero waste, and other causes.
It’s worth supporting the business for this, yet it’s not the only reason why shoppers flock to their stores. A major reason is the Kroger brand products, but that’s not all that’s in store.
You can find all sorts of stuff in any of their 2,700 supermarket branches all over the United States. Anything you might need, they have it here. They have even non-food items like blankets, beauty products, and even games.
You don’t come here for those, however. Not sure what to buy at Kroger? See below for the 7 products you must check out when you come for a visit.
Kroger has a wide variety of meat available to all shoppers, whether they come with a low or high budget. Quality cheap and traditional cuts are aplenty. Apart from that, you also have many choices of specialty and organic meats.
If you can’t find the cut you’re looking for, head over to the butcher. They’re willing to do any cut as long as you ask.
But the best thing about the meat in Kroger is the price. They are consistent in being cheaper than in competitors.
Kroger offers a nice selection of seafood, from frozen to fresh, and from farm-raised varieties to wild-caught. You’ll find cod, tilapia, salmon, pollock, lobster, and so on.
Most of their wild-caught varieties follow the standards of the Marine Stewardship Council. They also follow the recognized programs of the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative.
Kroger even has a program called “Easy for You!,” which lets you customize an oven-ready seafood meal. It lets you choose the type of seafood, then the seasoning, and the garnish.
You take home a bag you pop into the oven. It’s that easy, and the best thing about it is that it’s a free service. If you’re not sure what to try first, Kroger has a chart of tried and tested seafood and seasoning pairings.
Kroger’s produce section is expansive, as well. It carries both conventional and organic produce. Both have a lower price point than in competitors, as well.
Its organic products, in particular, are popular among grocery shoppers. Their quality can rival that of organic stores. Because of the lower prices, shoppers here can enjoy organic food at the same price as the conventional products in other stores.
Want to save even more? Look for the “WooHoo” labels. These indicate sale items, but they’re usually nearing their expiry dates.
Kroger has a wide selection of cheese, from cheddar to aged gouda. You’ll find several brands of mozzarella and different blends of cheeses. You’ll also find cheeses from the famed Murray’s Cheese company, which Kroger acquired in 2017.
Whatever your budget, you’ll find something in the deli for your cheeseboard. Spend a little more to get higher quality ones, and then buy some almonds, cured meat, and such in the deli.
But yes, specialty cheeses are still expensive even at Kroger. If you’re on a tight budget or you want to try out a variety you’ve tried before, look out for the ones with a huge markdown price.
You might catch the higher-end ones with a 50% discount or less. You’ll have to consume them within a week, though.
Looking to stock up your pantry with spices? No need to look elsewhere. Whether you’re feeling adventurous or safe, you’ll likely find everything you need in Kroger.
The classics like garlic powder, lemon and pepper, dried basil, and paprika are all here. But if you’re looking to spice up your meals, try the Japanese-inspired seaweed blend, ground Chipotle chili pepper, pumpkin pie spice, or the truffle Parmesan blend.
Even if you’re not feeling adventurous at all and you don’t want to buy a lot to mix and match, you can instead buy blends like taco seasonings, steak seasoning, and even birthday cake seasoning.
Prices can vary and they can get expensive. But look around for deals, you’re sure to spot one.
6. Generic Label Items
Kroger is so confident of its label products that it’s offering to accept anything you have purchased and not happy about. They will then replace it with an equivalent product in another brand.
They have different in-house brands, however, so make sure you look out for these labels:
- Private Selection
- Simple Truth and Simple Truth Organic
- Luvsome and Abound
- Big K
- Home Sense
Customers don’t return their Kroger brand products too often, though. Their store brands are of high quality, too.
This should give you the freedom to try out their store-brand version of your favorite. Who knows, you might like it better!
That’s a major win since Kroger brands are inexpensive. They can go as low as 50% cheaper than their name-brand counterparts.
7. Friday Freebies
Want a free item when you shop at Kroger? Check out Kroger’s Free Friday promo.
Kroger gives out a coupon for a specific product on select Friday of the month. It’s usually on the first Friday of the month.

You do have to download the coupon, though. It’s only available for Kroger customers registered through the website or the app. You then have to wait until midnight of the selected Friday for the coupon to become available through the Kroger Free Friday download page.
It’s available until 11:59 pm of that day. It shows up on the “My Coupons” tab in your web account or the app. You can redeem it within 2 weeks afterward; it’s automatically applied when you swipe your shopper’s card.
